Bunchgrass Meadow, OR Bunchgrass Meadow must be one of the best field sites in the Pacific Northwest. Here I surveyed plots and took tree increment cores. The research is investigating the dynamics of meadow encroachment and the efficacy of various restoration treatments. |

H.J. Andrews, OR Watersheds 1 and 3 at the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest have been part of a permanent sample plot data set since the 1960s. Here I surveyed plot locations with differential GPS and identified patches of pathogenic fungi. My MS thesis analyzed patterns of overstory dynamics. |

Mt. St. Helens, WA I participated in the 25th anniversary “research pulse” of vegetative sampling. As a member of a large crew, we measured cover of all species in plots representing the gradient of low to high volcanic disturbance. |
|
Cedar River Watershed, WA I ran a vegetation crew of nine paid staff, interns and volunteers. We surveyed transects, identified all forest understory plants (2725 m2 area), and mapped the size, species and location of all live and dead trees (5.5 ha) in this 80 yr old forest. More on the Cedar River Watershed work. |
